We're Seeking Sensory Stimulation

Help me give my students a playset, art centers and a water and sand table, the things they need to regulate sensory processing challenges!

My Students

How exciting it is to watch my students bring so much diversity into the classroom each day. Although our school is located in a small town in South Mississippi, we have much to offer because of our students.

My students have multiple abilities, but they need a variety of items in their environment to help their bodies prepare for learning.

As a Special Education teacher, I am able to monitor and celebrate individual student successes for multiple years. From beginning to end, it is ultimately rewarding.

My Project

Typical classroom environments need items such as books for a classroom reading nook, or student computers for a learning center.

My students face sensory processing challenges daily, and need specific items to to help them prepare to learn by regulating their bodies in their environment.

Scheduling sensory breaks, or designated times to increase movement will consist of incorporating physical activities in the classroom with a slide and allowing the use of a sit-n-spin. By having access to these items, the students will have the opportunity to develop individual motor skills, as well as have sensory support while learning to regulate their bodies prior to learning.

The availability for various modes of seating is essential for students; helps minimize sensory meltdowns, accommodates students who are unable to sit still, and offers support for students learning personal space relative to their own bodies.
