Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have so much energy for learning and really do come to school each day wanting to learn and know more. As a science teacher, I often find myself feeling like I am falling short of my best teacher self because I do not have all of the resources such as lab supplies or the space (or time!) to do everything that I think high school students should experience in science.

For the past 2 years, my co-teacher and I have taught math and science in the same classroom at the same time!

We started with seniors and this year we are excited to be learning with freshmen. Math and science in the same room can best be described as beautiful chaos on most days. Some students come to our class with pre-conceptions about math and/or science being difficult and therefore they wonder why we would dare put them in the same room! However, by the end of the year, most students will agree that the struggle was worth it and they learned a lot!

My Project

Although some of the materials that I chose may be very basic, I am working on focusing on the learning and teaching together part this year. Too often I make changes or make my lesson plan easier to put into action because I do not have the time or resources to gather basic supplies like post-it notes and make sure we have enough markers. As a science teacher, I think it is very important for students to see pictures of examples and look at diagrams. The projector will allow me to do this in my lessons whenever I want or need! Also, the projector is not very big so I will be able to take it with me if I am teaching a small group in a room that does not have one!
