Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Poetry Slam Tea Party Workshop will combine the art of spoken word poetry with the tradition of a communal tea party, offering students a safe, supportive space to explore their creativity while cultivating confidence and communication skills.

Through poetry, students will address personal themes, social justice issues, and contemporary topics that matter to them, all while developing critical literacy and performance skills.

In addition to the workshop , the tea party setting will encourage meaningful discussions, build peer relationships, and foster an inclusive environment where every student feels heard and valued.

By incorporating these two powerful elements, the program aims to:

Enhance literacy and writing skills: Students will learn how to craft poems that reflect their unique voices and experiences, while also practicing editing, revision, and performance techniques.

Build self-esteem and confidence: Performing their work in front of peers will help students gain self-assurance and pride in their creative abilities.

Create community and connection: The tea party aspect will encourage collaborative thinking, group dialogue, and peer support, which is especially important in a school serving students from marginalized or underserved communities.

We believe that this program will be an enriching experience that empowers students to express themselves, find their voices, and engage with the world in a meaningful way. Your support will help us make this vision a reality for the students of our school.
