My Students

This will be our first year participating in the Disney Planet Challenge! Our project will involve planning and implementing a recycling project at our school. We will introduce all of our classes to recycling, including what to recycle, why to recycle, and how to recycle.

We are a Title 1, low-performing school with a majority of English-language learners.

Our students are currently under-performing in language arts and in becoming fluent in English. We are a classroom with 32 wonderful fourth grade students. My students are excited, energetic, and enthusiastic. My students love school, especially when it involves creativity, teamwork, technology, and hands-on learning. Although my students know about the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), they have not had many experiences with these concepts. Along with the Disney Planet Challenge, the laptop will allow them to become fully involved with their recycling project.

My Project

Our class is very excited to begin the recycling project. The city of Los Angeles provides free recycling services to all Los Angeles Unified Schools, and we will be working closely with this service to help us establish recycling at our school. The laptop and software that we are requesting will help the students work hands-on to develop and implement the project. They will use it to do research, as well as plan an audio-video presentation to introduce the school to the program. They will also use the laptop and software to enter data, so that the amount of items recycled can be measured and the success of the project determined. We will use the funds we receive from recycling cans and bottles to pay for badly needed classroom essentials. Recycling is a WIN, WIN!!!

The recycling project will benefit our school, as well as the community.

It will benefit each student, as they become responsible for planning the project and working with it to completion. Using the laptop to assist them in the project will enable them to learn how to use technology effectively. It will expand their learning experience, both inside and outside the classroom, as they become hands-on learners. Thank you for helping us achieve our goals.
