This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our diverse high school is in a section of Miami, Florida that has an extraordinary amount of artistically talented students with a strong drive to create art and succeed academically. Our classroom is considered "home" for many of my art students, specifically those enrolled in the Advanced Placement classes. For the last five years, they have consistently submitted excellent and well thought out portfolios. It is incredible considering that we are NOT a magnet school for the arts!

Above all, they are genuinely kind, loving and hard-working young adults.

Over the last several years, the use of technology in schools has increased greatly. My students love to utilize technology, as many do not have the Internet or computers at home, yet they are enthusiastic to accomplish assignments that involve digital art. I'm hoping to give them the opportunity to work on tablets and make their sketches and ideas come to life.

My Project

These materials will make a difference in students' learning because they will be given a tool to explore another avenue of creating art. The iPad and pen will be used to create digital pieces, catalog student work and help with research.

We have a wonderful Advanced Placement Studio Art program here at Miami Senior High and adding this resource for the students will only help to further their exposure to other types of art mediums and avenues to create.

My students are deeply interested in digital art and I want to fuel their passion by providing the materials. We have spoken about creating digital paintings, animation and photography.
