My Students

My 19 energetic first graders walk into our classroom each morning excited to learn, ready for what is in store for them. I teach in a Title I school in Newark, NJ where all students receive free/reduced breakfast and lunch.

Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and love coming to school to achieve success.

We begin each day with our school pledge; encouraging students to be ready, respectful, and responsible each day. Then we have morning meeting, where students share something that makes them special, or something that makes them proud. I want my students to know that I believe in them and I care about them.

My Project

My students spend a significant portion of their day interacting with digital platforms because our school participates in Blended Learning. Each day my students rotate through literacy and math centers. When they visit the digital station, they log into programs that assess their current skills, reinforce targeted concepts, and provide consistent interventions for struggling students.

Few students can afford to bring in their own headphones.

With several students using laptops at once, it makes the room very noisy. Students become frustrated when they cannot hear, and the rest of the class is disrupted when we turn the volume up louder. With these headphones, all my students will be able to focus solely on their work and achieve academic success.
