My Students

My students’ worlds have been turned upside down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I teach in a low-income, high poverty area. Our school is located in an urban neighborhood in New York City, and 85% of our students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast, their daily source of nutrition. The school services many students who live in transient shelters. Eighteen percent of our students have special needs and receive special services. My students are finally based in the building.

These students are adjusting to life during a pandemic; They still need to wear masks daily in school.

Classes are closed during a covid outbreak. The road to recovery is social emotional learning and building academic skills while interacting with one another. My students need to rebuild relationships with others. They are mentally stressed. Our school population is comprised of general and special education students. The students are African American, Haitian, Latino, and Arabic.

My Project

Technology has taken over our kids' lives. I want to introduce my students to fun board games that they can learn and play with their classmates. Board games help with a child's development and growth. This project is geared toward the extracurricular activities of the after-school program.

My students need an opportunity to engage in fun board games to sharpen their skills while socializing with other students, instead of being on their digital devices.

Help me provide board and card games for my kids to play after school. These games will give my students an opportunity to further their learning and gain social and communication skills. The board games will help develop their mind and develop social skills among my students.
