This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a high school teacher who is trying to create a safe place for students to learn how to express themselves without using harmful language. I have noticed that people tend to ease their guard when they are eating. As a public school teacher in a Title I school, funds are already tight but this club/group is a passion of mine and I want to not just push them academically but encourage how to express themselves without being aggressive or abrasive towards others.

They become relaxed and calm, more willing to share what’s on their mind when they eat versus just sitting down and talking.

Food is the ultimate equalizer and by having these snacks, students can help promote positive school-wide spirit and encourage self-confidence and understanding.
