My Students
Imagine completing a writing assignment using a crayon or colored pencil. My students need supplies to help them complete classroom assignments and organize their materials. These supplies will benefit all of my students, kindergarten through 8th grade.
Our students love the arts and being able to express themselves creatively.
Each class has both music and art twice a week, but suffer due to lack of materials. While we do our best with what we have, I would love to offer the best experience I can to these students while they are in music class.
Our school is a small, high achieving neighborhood school in the heart of a large urban city. The small size of our school (one of each grade K- 8th grade, and a full K-8 program for students on the Autism Spectrum) contributes to our unique family atmosphere that values fundamental regard for all children. Our learning community serves an economically and culturally diverse population of students living both in the surrounding neighborhood and communities from around the city, all of whom receive free breakfast and lunch each day.
My Project
Every year, I offer and provide my students from kindergarten through 8th grade with a variety of learning opportunities ranging from playing with instruments and vocal improvisations, to active listening assignments and writing prompts. The materials we seek will help students to actively participate in all activities.
My students love using the page protectors because they quickly turn into individual whiteboards which can be used throughout the lessons. What is really great about these plastic sheets is that I can provide my students with innumerable templates to work on creating rhythms, practice their notation writing and melody composition. Because of this, these sheets are really priceless.
Each student has a listening journal that is kept in my room. However, when our pencil sharpener and 3-hole punch broke in March, it became difficult for our students to stay organized and to keep up with their work. These new tools will help all students be successful.
These students are very special.
They are talented, and most importantly, eager and ready to learn. Music seems to be an area where each of these students has the potential to excel. When reading and math are difficult to wrap your head around, music can offer an outlet for expression and relaxation.
