My classroom is in an alternative school that serves students for whom a traditional high school setting has been unsuccessful, or who have gone through trauma or other setbacks, necessitating a different setting to finish their education. Next year a yoga and wellness course will be available to students at our school and there is a great deal of interest already. These supplies will help us start off strong at the beginning of the year, providing each student in the class with the needed supplies and supports for a yoga class that supports all bodies.
Through yoga and mindful breathing, students will learn tools that help reduce stress and anxiety, regulate emotions, and develop their mind-body connection.
A trauma-informed lens will be applied in this setting, with yoga classes constructed mindfully and intentionally to meet the needs of our population, building resilience and allowing them the freedom to move and release tension or relax and find calm.
As a Registered Yoga Teacher I will be leading students in wellness practices that they will be able to use both in and beyond the classroom, managing emotions through difficult times.
