My Students

Growing up in a bilingual setting myself, I am very thrilled to dedicate my passion into teaching dual language to my pre-k students. It is the best age for students to be exposed to two languages so they can be fluent in both languages growing up. Serving all my students who are from low-income immigrant families made this challenging because parents don't have enough time and money to reinforce the skills they learned. I work in a Title I school which needs a lot of support in funding and resources.

I've always seen my bilingual students as sponges because they can just absorb so much knowledge at this age.

I see so much potential in these first-generation sponges. Students always come to school ready to learn. They love to engage in hands-on activities and explore content-related materials in different centers. Most of my students enter school without speaking any words in English. Miraculously, it is such a fulfillment to communicate with them in English by the end of the year.

My Project

Providing flexible seating and a cozy environment would cultivate so many benefits to little learners' physical health along with their emotional well-being. I am requesting the wood stump floor cushions so students can learn comfortably just like sitting in nature. Nature-themed ottoman storage and bins can help students feel warmer and calmed in an organized classroom. If students can have their own floor cushion, then they can maintain the social distancing while interacting in whole group lessons every day. It's also easier to sanitize and wash the cushion covers rather than a big rug, on a regular basis.

With these resources, my students will be advanced in their socialization, productive conversation, engaged learning, and participation.

The teepee play tent can encourage students to enjoy reading and spend a longer time in the reading center. With different decorations based on the curriculum theme, the teepee play tent can also be used in a dramatic center where students can be engaged in pretend play, thus promoting more conversation among their peers.

With some puppets and stuffed animals, students would find the teepee play tent very comforting.
