Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our elementary school, nestled in the middle of the South Bronx, has no library for our burgeoning readers. What we need is a comfy haven of books where our 400 K-5 scholars can read and broaden their imaginations and perspectives. Our school is a diverse environment, with about 25% English Language Learners and over 50% of multilingual scholars in all.

Not all children have access to local libraries or home book collections, and their schools are their main exposure to the world of literacy.

Our dream library would shelve books at all reading levels and in a variety of genres to engage even the most reluctant reader and would have comfortable seating for library classes with the rug and seats, read-alouds, independent reading time, and maybe visits from authors!

The library room is in the basement of our building, but we want it to be a place of warmth and color and a space where students feel at home in. If you'd like to give and support us in creating that cozy library space, you will be partnering with our teachers in opening wide the door to the wonderful world of books.
