My Students

As a 3rd grade teacher in a low-income, high ESL population, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I try to keep things fun and engaging and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences in a warm and encouraging environment. My classroom is a beautiful mix of students who have special needs, struggle with behavior issues and are learning how to speak English.

I try to make each of my students smile everyday!

Unfortunately, for most of my students, the importance of education is not stressed at home. My class is a curious bunch and always asking questions. During our nonfiction units, their faces come to life. Having new nonfiction books would definitely motivate them to become life long learners and never stop their curiosities.

My Project

My students love nonfiction books! Trains, rainforests, sloths, food, maps - you name a nonfiction topic, they want to learn more about it! They are always asking questions. My students come alive during our informational units.

An updated, engaging and interesting nonfiction library is just what they need to keep that curiosity going!

My students are disappointed with the outdated books and topics we have in our room. I regularly visit public libraries and borrow books on the topics they are most interested in because they don't have anyone to take them after school. Unfortunately, education is not a top priority in many of their homes so it is my responsibility to foster their desire to learn.
