My PreK classroom is a place of friendship, safety, learning, and belonging. As I welcome a whole new group of 3 and 4-year-olds, many of who are first-generation Americans or even recent newcomers to our country, I want to make sure our room is filled with things to make their first days fun and exciting.
I am requesting name tags and nameplates, so every child can begin to recognize their own name in print, as well as giving myself and other staff members a fast way to identify each child and call them by their correct name.
Some of my students come in not yet speaking English, and this will be the first step for them in recognizing the English alphabet.
Play-Doh and watercolor paints are always some of children's most familiar activities. Having these in my classroom will give the students a sense of familiarity, no matter what their experiences were before coming to school. These supplies are things we use throughout the year and will be much-loved and appreciated.
