My Students

I work at a K-8 Title I school located in the heart of Harlem. Our vibrant neighborhood is filled with a rich history. At our school, most students receive free or reduced rate lunch. Although not rich in resources, my first graders are the most amazing, passionate, curious thinkers, builders, and explorers. They are learning and growing every day. They enjoy coming to school, love all subjects, and have a desire to learn. They motivate me and enrich my passion for teaching. In an effort to close the achievement gap, I would like to provide my students with the resources to enhance learning opportunities.

My Project

As we approach a new school year, I am lacking some of the necessities. I am requesting a number of materials that will allow the beginning of the year to start off smoothly, (pencils, book baggies, scissors, etc ). Students will use the pencils everyday in ALL subjects. At the beginning of the year, a supply list is sent home, yet only a limited amount of families are able to bring in materials. Having pencils already available will alleviate the burden on families. Students will begin reading on their very first day of school! They will need to use the book baggies to carry their leveled books to and from home and school. Many students do not have books at home, and book baggies will allow students to have access books with the ability to properly care for them. I am also requesting an Explode the Code workbook. Explode the Code has proven to be a resourceful tool yielding great results for learners on various levels.

These materials will make a HUGE difference in the lives of 25 amazing and eager to learn students.

With the provided tools, students will be have an opportunity to be set up for academic success. Please consider helping us attain these materials. We would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you for reading!
