This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am tasked with the pleasure of teaching enthusiastic, second-grade students in all subject areas from home. These students are curious, intelligent, and creative beyond all measure but teaching from home has made things challenging. They attend a visual and performing arts magnet school in Los Angeles. Since our school is an arts magnet, we try to integrate art in all forms into as many subject areas as possible. The students at this school come from various backgrounds with various life experiences. Funding for some of our materials is difficult to come by. I appreciate you coming to our page and would appreciate any support you could give.
My Project
After a year and a half of using a small 12 inch screen to teach 23 second graders remotely, I have am excited to finally return to school full time to teach. Things will be different than previous years with students and teachers wearing masks and desks spread out around the classroom. I need a larger computer screen to help the students visually see what I am teaching them. These students in particular, missed in-person Kindergarten for the last few months as well as first grade. These years are crucial for reading and writing development. I will use this computer to post and show videos of reading, writing, and math so the students can engage with me mask free virtually. I have already begun creating videos to show proper mouthing for letter sounds.
I am hopeful to upgrade to a larger computer to replace my smaller laptop.
This computer upgrade will allow students to see the screen and participate on learning programs with me in the classroom.
Unfortunately, our school does not have the funding to provide us with updated and user friendly devices at this time. I am hoping we will not be spending as much time in front of computers but will try to use them in creative ways to catch everyone up on what they missed.
