My Students

I teach in a Pre K-8 building. I have the all of the students in grades 6-8. Most of these students started in the building in Pre K so for them, my school is their second home.

My students come from low socio economic status households.

Many come to school not only to learn, but as a place for comfort and to have a warm meal ; a place where there is an individual who is able to listen to them and give them some undivided attention. They are wonderful students who want to learn, but need to feel welcomed in the classroom for them to work hard.

My Project

Students who have been out of the classroom for over a year and a half need to feel safe when entering school again. Feeling safe means feeling comfortable with our surroundings. These items will be used to create an environment that makes students feel comfortable. Some students come hungry to school or are hungry during the day. The cereal dispenser will allow me to give snacks over the course of the day. The hooks will be used to hang lights that are colorful and create a fun environment. For students who make talk low or are a little shy, their voices will be heard with the microphone. While being able to work with others again in group work, students will be able to share their ideas with one another by writing on the dry erase reusable dots. In times when there is group work, the doorbell will signal to the students that it is time to come back together as a whole class. For any student that may be unsure about what the topic is or for students who want to read more on the topic, the clear book shelves will be hanging up on the board with books pertaining to the lesson of the day or unit of study.

Students learn best when they feel comfortable and safe.

Let's give that to them this year as much as possible.
