My Students

My students are attempting the challenge of meeting our increasingly rigorous science standards.

I teach 5th grade Science in a low income school.

I have both general education students and students with special needs. Many of the science ideas that the students are required to understand are abstract causing them quite a bit of confusion and uneasiness with science.

My Project

I've found that students learn better by participating in small center groups. It gives the students more face-to-face time with me and increases their understanding of the information. By having these small groups with games, like science bingo and science study games, there will be centers available for students while they are not sitting directly with me, while still adding to their science knowledge. The science quiz game provides a double purpose allowing students to show leadership by being the "game show host" and others the opportunity to increase their science knowledge while having fun.

These items, although fun, allow students to feel successful in their small groups without the pressures of the intricate text book.

It presents the information for the students in a way that is welcoming and understandable. These items will not only help my current students, but can be used for years to come enriching a generation of minds.
