My Students

I am a Special Education Teacher in South Los Angeles. Approximately 11% of the school's population has been determined eligible for Special Education services for learning disabilities, Attention challenges or for being on the Autism Spectrum. But these don't deter them. In fact, they come to school looking forward to new things to discover and learn. With the challenges that come with their unique needs, however, they find themselves struggling to focus, retain information, or even relax to learn effectively.

My Project

Some of our students who have Autism or Learning Disabilities display attention challenges. There are times in the day where it becomes very difficult for them to be on task. To assist them during these times, I would like to provide them with these compression/ weighted vests. These will be worn by our students at certain times of the day when they are observed to display anxiety or heightened distractibility.

Research has shown that WEIGHTED VESTS and LAP PADS increase on-task behavior in children.

They provide deep pressure stimulation that calms children, helping them focus. Having these tools easily available in their classrooms will be very beneficial.
