My Project

I am a fourth grade teacher in a Title I public school where nearly all students come from low-income households. My students are a diverse group of fourth graders, who are English Language Learners. They are learning both English and the fourth grade curriculum, at the same time. Our classroom is a place where students come to both learn and escape. We try to explore and deepen our thinking, while also learning. I know that they will work very hard and aim to be the best students that they could possibly be.

I am requesting varied nonfiction books related to extreme weather systems.

We will begin a new unit of study in reading, related to nonfiction and specifically, weather. I need assistance in obtaining a sufficient number of books on this topic. One commonality that my students share is their love of reading and researching. They always want to share what they have discovered.

These books would be a great addition to our classroom library and help guide our students' research in the weather unit. This project also helps the students read books of a different genre, since they are most used to reading fiction. I have requested books in Spanish, as well as English, so that all of my students can feel comfortable while researching. Students love to learn about different topics and I know that they will be enthusiastic about this weather unit. This class and future classes will get to benefit from these non-fiction books.
