Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach three sections of 7th grade Integrated Science, one section of Physics, one section of Chemistry and International Baccalaureate Physics with a total of 175 students. My school is located in an urban area and has 2900 students in it. Our school is the oldest one in the city.

My students are a diverse mix of low and high-income urban students.

They represent many ethnic and racial groups. I also teach a wide array of classes.

I teach physics, biology, chemistry, earth science, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate Physics. The students all love applied science and hands-on activities.

My Project

My class is stocked with old, inaccurate glass thermometers which need to be replaced. Digital Thermometers will provide better precision and help students appreciate the models in physics. They will be used for studies in thermal physics when we study heat capacitance. Thermometers are also used in States of Matter studies, as students experience phase changes. Finally, thermometers are used by students to replicate Charles Law in deducing absolute zero.

The weather station will be used daily by students during the Atmospheric science unit.

Students will use the information to study and predict the local weather.
