My Students

I teach fourth and fifth grade Title I reading in one of the best rural schools in Oklahoma. My students are a diverse group with varied levels of learning that are pulled out daily to learn new reading skills in our reading intervention lab. Our classroom is a space where students enjoy coming to learn. We are a Title I school with the majority of our students receiving free lunch.

These students have huge hearts and love to learn in non-traditional ways such as room transformations, integrating the arts into our lessons, and project-based learning.

My students have curiosity, creativity, compassion, and positive attitudes. They are truly amazing people. My school is wonderfully supportive of the active hands-on learning that we do in our classroom. I couldn't ask for a better learning environment for these students. We are truly a community!

My Project

My students need high interest chapter books to develop good reading skills and learn about historical events. My students love the “I Survived” book series. We are currently reading, “I Survived the Grizzly Attacks of 1967” and they can’t get enough. Many of my students didn’t know about this attack. These historical fiction books are great because they take real life events and turn them into a story that comes alive for my students. I am requesting, “I Survived the Revolutionary War” which also helps reinforce the Social Studies content they are covering this year. Reading these books will greatly enhance my students understanding of these historical events. Thank you in advance for your support to help my students learn and grow.
