My Students

The students at IBCS are a truly fantastic bunch. They come from a variety of backgrounds in our small beach community, which has been hit hard by Covid-19. After being in distance learning and away from our campus for over 500 days, our kids are finally back in person! Teachers and students alike are eager to be back, and are looking forward to making this school year the best one yet.

Since we spent the entirety of our last school year in virtual classrooms, our students have missed out on some of the most valuable and enjoyable parts of school.

Plus, our kids have worked so hard over the past 18 months. They deserve the absolute best! We appreciate any and all donations that you are able to provide for our hard working, funny, enthusiastic students.

My Project

One of the highlights of our 5th grade experience at Imperial Beach Charter is working in our school garden. Students love to plant seeds and watch them grow. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we did not have access to campus, and our garden has been neglected. We are working on getting it back in ship shape so we can start enjoying the process of working in our garden and to hopefully inspire a love of gardening in a new generation of kids.

One of the best parts of working in our garden is that we get to learn about living systems firsthand.

Students who work in the garden get to witness and experience some of the magic of nature and science. We watch caterpillars grow into butterflies, seeds grow into veggies, and hopefully with your help, we will get to watch the process of our food and waste become part of the soil.

With this Worm Farm, we hope to give students the opportunity to watch as food waste is transformed before our very eyes into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. This worm composter will serve two purposes - teaching students about decomposers, which is part of our 5th grade NGSS standards, and helping to boost our garden soil as we work to return it to its former glory.

Thank you so much for your support!
