PS116Q is located in a very impoverished section of Queens, New York. With the school population at more than 815 students, we don't have enough computers hooked up to do research on the Internet. We have some classes on the fourth and fifth floors that have two computers in each classroom. Yet only one computer can access the Internet, because we don't have enough hubs. A hub is a connector that would allow both computers to be online at the same time. That way, two students can do research simultaneously. This would be a great way to work collaboratively together. The fourth, fifth, and sixth graders will be doing exit projects this year centered on science and technology. The students will be given the time to access the Internet to work on their projects every Monday for one period. This may not seem like a lot of time, but it would be sufficient if the students could use both computers. If two students are able to use the Internet to research their given topics, I feel that all of the students will have an opportunity to pull up their grades. Our school could really benefit by having 15 hubs. That way, 15 more classrooms will be able to access the Internet and both computers will really be online.
