Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fifth grade class has the opportunity to travel beyond the confines of New York City to the scenic Hudson Valley. Our city kids will enjoy the freedom of this 500 acre site to experience landscape sculpture, most likely for the first time ever!

Our children are very interested in art.

Through their years at PS 75 they have participated in Studio in a School where professional teaching artists are brought into our classrooms. Our children have had art class every week and have been developing the ability to communicate through and about Art.

This class trip will enhance their understanding of sculpture as an impactful medium!

My Project

We want our students to experience an extraordinary sculpture park right in our back yard! Over our 4-6 hour visit our students will experience the juxtaposition of large sculpture projects set in a natural landscape.

Storm King Art Center is one of the world’s leading sculpture parks.

It is located only one hour north of NYC, in the lower Hudson Valley, on 500-acres of fields, hills, and woodlands. There are more than 100 carefully sited sculptures in the landscape created by some of the most acclaimed artists of our time.

Our students will get a sense of the impact that sculpture can have. Storm King has works from all the heavyweight sculptors from the 1960s on including the following: Alexander Calder, Maya Lin, David Smith, Nam June Paik, Mark Di Suervo, Richard Serra, Roy Lichtenstein, Sol Lewitt, Barbara Hepworth, Louise Nevelson, Henry Moore, Claes Oldenburg and more.
