My Students

"We want to read, wonder, and learn!" Help us to read books we like! We want to read, but need help relaxing. We want to learn, but we need materials we enjoy!

My students are amazing children with autism in a self contained 6:1:1 setting who work hard everyday!

They deserve to be given the proper support to give them the opportunity to learn in a way they will remember! Our school's mission is to teach students through multiple pathways of learning to meet the needs of each student. Books and a motivating literacy area will help us! Daily read alouds and independent reading assist in building student reading and listening skills which leads to understanding content across all areas of the curriculum and comprehension. My students have expressed a strong interest in the Berenstain Bears and requested comfortable chairs to meet their sensory needs. Our classroom is a happy place for all children to grow as they read, wonder and learn!

My Project

The materials will be used to create a larger literacy area where my students will engage in independent reading, group reading, and guided reading. Students will engage in reading the Berenstain Bears series to learn new information based on the unit being learned (i.e:. staying healthy). There are multiple books within this series that will motivate the students learning of the content and give them the opportunity to understand. Each student has different needs including their learning styles and sensory needs. The chairs will help to calm the students and put them in their happy place while reading and building new skills.

My students deserve a positive classroom environment with the proper tools and resources available to them.

Children with autism require sensory integration to aide their learning as well motivation to get engaged. The furniture and books will afford my students the opportunity to learn and understand in an environment they need to feel comfortable in their learning.
