This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help my students learn to love to read. My students love to read but hardly get read to. They are second language learners who don't always get the support they need at home. That is why a listening center is what would benefit them!

My students are eager second graders who want to reading to be more fun!

Unfortunately, we do not have a listening center with read along books to practice reading skills. They are growing up in a low-income area and come from families where English is not their first language. These students are enthusiastic learners!

My Project

We would love to have a complete listening center with an audio player, headphones, and read along books to better enhance our education. With a listening center, students would be able to go a a center for independent work or in small groups, to listen to fun stories. The listening would allow my students to listen to new and interesting stories and at the same time further develop their reading skills such as sight words, reading fluency, reading comprehension, and very important, proper intonation and pacing. We are also requesting a new printer to print our published writing pieces and any colorful images that we could add to our "Big Question Board."

The listening center, read along books, and printer would definitely enhance the students learning in my 2nd grade classroom. My students need this extra support in the classroom a key component in reading is making sure the children listen to stories. It would make reading more fun and interactive for these awesome kids!
