We Want to Learn Like Our Friends

My Students

Each of my students have the most incredible personalities. Their eagerness to participate and engage with one another undeniable. Distance Learning has been incredibly challenging for Room 1 students because they like most kids, benefit from hands-on learning.

My students have multiple disabilities with orthopedic impairments and deserve a chance to also participate in learning while at home.

Fortunately they are blessed with loving families who look after their activities of daily living but they are lacking the resources and learning support that their classroom provides.

My Project

We are so appreciative of Mr. Ben's first funded project; We Learn Better in Color and we are excited to show off what was created with all of those materials. Unfortunately, there is just no telling when we will be back on campus so I thought I'd share some of what I see that is missing from their daily instruction.

Our students are craving hands-on instruction with materials that are colorful and textured so they can be best engaged given each of their unique physical needs.

For example, many of our students are learning to use battery operated voice output devices as a means for communication and also switches in order to 'turn on' various adapted toys or electronic devices provided by myself or volunteers.

Playdough is and has always been great for kids who are early learners. My students are no different. They are in the process of exploring their hands and different textures.

The bingo daubers are excellent tools used to strengthen grab and release skills and they are conducive to many student with limited fine motor abilities.

Providing my students with clear sheet protector pockets enables them to re-use worksheets and thus saves on paper. The whiteboards and dry erase markers are perfect for structured letter tracing and the dry erase makers would fit well with the adapted writing kit that we sent home a couple weeks ago.

We in Room 1 are forever thankful to all who take the time to donate.
