Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are the best! I wouldn't ask for anything different. They are just short of amazing! My students are energetic, loving, kind, and active! When I enter the classroom, my students are ready and eager to learn. I work in a low-income community in the South Bronx. They may not have much, but when they enter my classroom, I like make sure they have the world. My students are respectful and helpful to anyone who walks through the door. And at the end of the day, my kids are my world.

They love to sing, dance, experiment and learn in various ways!

My Project

All of our student's want to work together.

In my school, we are working toward being a a school that builds a community of learners.

In that community, we are training the students to work together and become better at collaboration.

But collaboration requires an environment which will make it easier for students to work together. Currently, the students in my class work together but they are seated in individual desks that are grouped together. Working at desks, although, poses a lot of challenges. Many times materials that students are using fall through the cracks between the desk. Student work and materials are hard to reach because there is so much space in between each student. Their small bodies make it hard for them to reach across two desks. Lastly, desk take up a lot of space in the classroom, so it does not allow for the continuous free movement necessary to collaborate.

Having the flower shaped table in the classroom will help to easy the challenges associated with collaborative work. I am slowly making the transition into making my classroom and eventually the school into a completely collaborative environment.
