Help Mrs. Tamminen

Hello! I teach reading, math and writing resource for special education students in grades 6,7 and 8. Our school is mostly minorities, has a high poverty rate and is in a rural area.

My students hate to write! They haven't met success with writing and have pretty much given up. When I even bring the subject up, they tune out! I really need to help these students become successful with writing so they can get back in the game before it's too late.

My students need a digital camera and publishing software to really engage them and help guide their writing. They will be publishing a school newspaper! Hopefully, the activities will be so fun that they will see how exciting and relative writing can be. They will have ownership on something positive and will change their outlook on school.

Many of my kids are already talking about dropping out and have had run ins with the law. They need to get on the right track, NOW! This project will help to ensure that they change their attitude about writing and can be successful if they put their minds to it. School has always been a struggle for these guys. Help me help them stop the frustration and have fun!!!!!!!!
