Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very special kindergarteners in a high needs area of a borough in New York. Many of my students are English language learners and children with special needs. Each student is unique in his or her own way and deserves to have the best educational experience possible. All of my students receive free lunch and come to school every day eager to learn.

Unfortunately, my classroom does not always have the supplies we need.

Every donation makes a difference in my students' lives. I look forward to creating projects that will make our classroom a joyful learning environment. Thank you!

My Project

Do you remember what it was like when you finally grasped a concept that was hard for you? The joy you felt and how proud you were. My students need help learning to read! My students need a collection of Elephant and Piggie books to keep my students engaged in reading all day long. Unfortunately, my classroom library does not meet the needs of my very excited bookworms. I can often be found at the public library three or four nights a week, checking out extra books for my students. At my elementary school, my students are reading for at least 20 minutes per day. During that time, they have a change to read their favorite books independently. The chance to read their favorite books with their favorite character would be an amazing expedience.

I want to encourage them to build their reading stamina and stay focused on their books.

My students have come to love Piggie and Elephants books, and the Mo Willems book are easy to read and act out. My students have fallen in love with reading and that is largely due to their obsession with the characters from Mo Willems books. In the end I want reading to be fun!

Your donation will help to foster a love of learning and reading. With your help, I can provide my students with the opportunity to curl up with a good book and read their hearts out!
