We have a very limited collection of lower level chapter books. I am encouraging my students to start reading books with richer language and we don't have any.
I teach at school that is predominately military children.
I have students from all over including Japan, Germany, China, and Australia. I also have students from California, Texas, Maryland, Ohio, Kansas, Alabama and Georgia. I want my students to have the opportunity to read on higher levels and be exposed to richer language in their reading.
My Project
This is my first year teaching and I did not inherit a very large book collection. The biggest area we are lacking in is lower level chapter books. The Junie B. Jones, Henry and Mudge, and Judy Moody collections are fantastic books that children enjoy reading. Having these books available would expose my students to richer language and will help them grow as readers.
Having a variety of lower level chapter books in the classroom will allow my students to have a larger selection of books to choose from and will help them develop a larger vocabulary because of the exposure to richer language.
