This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever tried to bake a cake from a list of instructions? Wasn't it easier to watch Rachel Ray do it on television? My students are given instructions to solve problems in math all the time. Yet, they could learn so much more by watching it done.

My students are creative thinkers that are not afforded many of the luxuries other students are.

They come from a low income area in California where many of society's burdens weigh heavily upon them. Despite their situation, my students continue to strive for a better education to realize their goal of making it into college. My students are young and curious investigators that attend a school where 100% of the student population falls under the free and reduced lunch program. The school has been staffed with many teachers dedicated to their students' achievement and growth since its inception in 2010.

My Project

The resource I am requesting is a document camera, which is a key component to help visual learners in math. With a document camera, I am afforded opportunities to demonstrate steps to solve a math equation, freeze frame examples of math related items, demonstrate uses of manipulatives, along with many more applications and uses. Students will be able to watch and learn how problems are solved in math. They will also be identifying key concepts such as radius or circumference with the use of the freeze frame. I believe document cameras are powerful tools used to assist in visual learning in a classroom.

My students are not afforded many of the luxuries, that are almost expected at other schools.

They struggle and make due with the materials they have and continue to make strides in their education. I believe a document camera is one piece of technology that can be implemented in my lessons that will have a great affect on their learning and their enthusiasm to learn.
