My Students

My students are the most delightful group of children a teacher could be blessed to teach. My over-crowded school is located in a corner of The Bronx. They are inner-city kids, which must overcome many disadvantages in pursuing their education. The students are awesome, eager, and hardworking children who are struggling learners. A large portion of these students are English Language Learners as well as Special Needs students.

My special students really just simply need extra support with their studies.

My Project

My awesome students love to use individual whiteboards, especially in math. In a time when social distancing has become part of our classroom vernacular, whiteboards enable my students to work together to share work and ideas from a safe distance. Whiteboards also provide the opportunity to watch my students as they work which gives me insight to their thinking. A rolling whiteboard allows me to whisk around the room and give differentiated instruction. Unfortunately, whiteboards and dry erase markers do not last forever. The whiteboards leave ghost traces and the markers dry up or are lost. Much to my students' dismay, when we do not have enough markers or whiteboards, we resort back to paper and pencil. Not only do we lose the opportunity to share ideas easily, but we also lose motivation and enthusiasm. Lost motivation leads to lost instruction.

By having an adequate supply of clean whiteboards, dry erase markers, and a rolling whiteboard, my students will be enthusiastic and eager to share ideas and increasing their learning.

The only thing they will need to focus on is lesson itself, not whether or not their marker works or their board is "dirty".

Now more than ever it is so important to foster an excitement and love of learning. This will not only improve their learning, but will enhance their social-emotional well-being which will lead to higher levels of academic achievement.
