My eager fourth graders are from Worcester, Massachusetts. They all come to school with smiles on their faces but have very different learning styles and needs. Many students in my classroom face challenges on a daily basis. These students range from special education students to students learning English for the first time. And many of these children come from high poverty neighborhoods. School is their safe place. My class loves to work with one another and they love to meet in places all around the room, not necessarily sit in their seats all day. They love to participate in activities that engage their bodies and their minds. They love to learn with technology and as their teacher, I love to think outside of the box.
The wobble chairs will help increase flexible seating in our classroom. My students will get to chose seating based on where they learn best! I am stepping out of my comfort zone because the benefits far outweigh the risks.
The immediate benefits of flexible seating include burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture.
Physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior.
Please help my students to get the flexible seating they need in the classroom!
