Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Books have the power to transport us to other worlds. We meet characters who become our friends, and we travel to places both imagined and real.

My students attend an urban charter school in a city that has been hit hard by rising unemployment and foreclosures.

They come to school every day, eager to learn and to read, read, and read more! The more they read, the more they want to read. Reading books expands their world, and opens them up to possibilities beyond the here and now.

My Project

By participating in the state's Children's Book Award project, my students will be able to connect to the larger community of readers, and join other children in casting votes to decide on favorite titles. They will come to understand that their vote counts and their reading matters.

My school does not have a library, and I do not have funding to purchase these additional titles.

Your support for this project will enable my students to take part in this project. My students will share these books with all the 5th graders at our school. Your gift will make lots of reading happen!
