Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a self-contained kindergarten and first-grade classroom with differently-abled students. My students come to me from diverse backgrounds, and with different experiences. Being a public school in New York City, we are lucky to have many cultures and backgrounds within our school. We are a Title I school of about 900 children.

My kiddos face learning challenges as well as life challenges, and it is my goal and deepest hope that they are in a classroom where they feel cared for, safe, at home, and free to learn.

Kindergarten and first grade are foundational years, and they are all about exploring and learning, becoming readers, writers, and mathematicians. We spend lots of time learning how to be good people and laughing.

My Project

As I think ahead to September and the new school year, I am aware of how much printing and laminating I did last year. My students often require supplemental materials to meet their different learning needs. With the cardstock and paper, I will find and print various graphic organizers (worksheets) across content areas to help them gain access to the curriculum and show success at their individual levels. The laminating sheets will help protect materials and resources that can be used for years to come. The Velcro dots will help secure materials. Students will use the pouches to hold their individual supplies and take them to and from school, and the Lysol wipes will help clean the pouches.

The donations to this project will help to improve my students access to the content in an authentic and meaningful way.
