Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am very fortunate to be the art teacher in a very diverse school, where over thirty native languages are represented. I welcome the diversity as well as the rich mixture of my students in my classroom. I see over two-hundred 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students a year. They love exploring everything from portraits and still life, to sculpture and painting. We revitalized the Drama Program at my school last Fall, and it was a big success.

We want to put on another musical!

My students are craving another theatre experience, learning all of the ins and outs of acting, directing, technical theatre, and more. Doing a play is the perfect way for all of my students to explore and expand their creative side.

My Project

Last year was the first play or musical at my school for several years. My students had a blast and are ready to jump back into the performing arts. We are planning to perform a Broadway Junior Musical in January. Many students who struggle in core classes often shine in the arts, and these events give them an opportunity to show off their creativity and skill.

Students need to be heard.

We spend so much time rehearsing, memorizing lines, and creating characters, that it is very disheartening to have an audience that can't hear us. We work hard to project our voices, but when parents, students, friends and the community join us, we are often drowned out.

With overhead microphones, we will be able to let our voices be heard, and show off all of our hard work and dedication.
