Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am an Occupational Therapist working with students with autism from K-5. I work with students on a variety of fine motor, visual motor, and sensorimotor skills. Our school is a title I school that serves students with a variety of needs. The majority of my caseload is students with autism in the ASD Nest Program. In order to promote successful participation throughout the school day, a variety of tools and strategies are implemented throughout the school to promote smooth transitions, coping skills, and sensory modulation.

The visuals we use are essential to allow our students to successfully participate in their school day.

Some of these include movement breaks, self-regulation programs, choice boards, visual schedules, sensory diets. Having colored visuals (verses black and white) are more engaging and promote understanding. For example, when using the Zones of Regulation program, the visuals should include colors to depict each zone and for clarity.
