Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in Holyoke, MA. Many of my students are from low-income and poverty households. Recently, we have received many students from Puerto Rico due to the hurricane. Our school was taken over by the state two years ago because of poor student performance. Many of our students come to school excited and ready to learn. It is hard to teach science without science equipment, though.

I want to provide the best learning environment for my students and really want to provide an avenue for careers in science.

My Project

I teach science to grades 5 and 6, so I see over one hundred students a day. I need paper so the students can effectively record their data from experiments. The Post- it easel pads are used to create charts that I hang around the classroom to remind the students of standards, objectives and learning targets.

Students also need to read about science concepts in order to answer questions and understand science curriculum.

These science readings are critical to the science topic that is being taught. These readings are to help the students synthesize their understanding of a science topic. Without paper to print these required readings the students are missing out on important information and learning opportunities.
