My Students

Do you remember listening or reading great stories that taught you about something? Folktales are a great way to get students to learn valuable lessons. Each story has something important to share.

I teach fourth grade at an urban elementary school.

They enjoy reading, but I'd like to expand their interest into different genres. Our school is a Title I school where 100% of our students are receiving free and reduced lunch. We are currently about 67% Limited English Proficient as well.

My Project

I would like several folktale books such as 12 Fabulous Funny Folktale Plays, Tales Alive!, Tales of the Shimmering Sky and Favorite Folktales from Around the World to help my students understand the importance of folktales across cultures and the lessons that can be learned from them. It will help my students analyze different folktales and be able to compare and contrast similar tales. I would also like book boxes to help organize the books in our classroom library as well. This way I can make sure students read a variety of genres.

Folktales are essential in our cultures.

They teach us lessons that are important in our lives. Students will use higher level thinking to make inferences and draw conclusions. Your generous donation will help us read and learn through folktales!
