Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I still have some best work from elementary school saved because it was laminated. Saved work provides a sense of accomplishment for students who have mastered a difficult task. A handheld lamination machine would provide my students with an opportunity to save their work.

I am the art specialist in a K-5 Arts school.

We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.

My Project

These lamination pouches would allow students to take home their most prized work and potentially save it. We would also be able to display our completed work on the walls without being concerned with tearing and wear. Finally, it would help to protect the items we use every day in class. I am constantly having to find new materials to replace paper center activities because they are folded, ripped, or have general wear. We need heavy 7MIL and 10MIL pouches to use for our everyday work mats and artist reprints.

It may not seem like much, but one laminated poster and work mat that a child can use throughout the entire year can inspire them to be amazing artists.
