Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The student population at my school is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. Over 80% of the students in my room are learning English as a Second Language. I see about a thousand students every week, from Kindergarten to grade five.

My school is located in one of the poorest areas of the state.

Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. All of the students receive free or reduced rate lunch, and some of them even go home without food on the weekends.

My Project

My students need an assortment of new, crayons, ink daubers, rulers, sharpies, and paint sticks to add color to their creations. I need a lot of supplies for my class sets since more than one student will need multiple colors at a time. Crayons, sharpies, rulers and ink...what could be more basic? We create realistic portraits, surrealism and perspective almost everyday. Students blend and mix materials they never thought about mixing. Help us give color to their ideas.

I currently have no budget this year for having almost 1,000 students.

Art is an area that is cut first, and often the deepest. Students who take art become more creative in their other classes and often do better in them as well. Thank you for taking considering my project.
