Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In my Robotics classes you get a variety of students from 6th to 8th grade pouring in wanting to do one thing "build a robot". My goal is to have my students fall in love with Robotics and start thinking of careers in the STEM field. My biggest challenge, I don't have enough robots.

About 85% are on free or reduced lunch.

We currently have about one thousand, seven hundred and forty students in our middle school. Unfortunately, money is not abundant among the students and their parents. My students are eager to learn, eager to build and definitely eager to compete. Last school year was our first year with the Robotics program at our school. With very few resources the newest kids on the block rose to the challenge and came out on top. Our team won District Finals, Regional and were one of the 42 schools invited to compete out of 600 schools in the state. This in turn has brought a lot of attention to our Robotics program. The news of our success and the wonderful things we are doing has sparked a huge interest in this class. We are averaging 60 students every class periods. We have 6 classes. Now I just need the hands-on resources for my all my students to use.

My Project

With the Robots that I am requesting my students will be able to apply the theoretical mechanics and programming lessons learned in class through hands on experience. The students will be broken up into smaller groups and given the task of building their robots. They will be able to not only build them but also program them to do commands. For example walking, opening a a door on the table, pushing blocks etc. The interest is now and I have to take advantage of that and expose my students to the endless possibilities of career choices through STEM . My project will make the difference between my students being able to fully experience our Robotics class the way it was intended.

There was no way to predict the huge interest in our program especially with the female students which is very exciting for our school and the robotics world.

With our new robots there will be no limits or boundaries that my students won't be able to achieve. Thank you for taking the time to consider our project "Calling All Robots."
