My Project

We started the year with 10 Mindstorm NXT sets for the robotics class. Within a week, we were down to 8 functioning sets. And now we're down to 7, as three of them are broken.

These Lego Robotics sets are around 18 years old.

Unfortunately, this means that there have been advancements in the technology since then, especially with the computers.

At the moment, we do not have enough kits to run the classroom effectively, and there are no computers that can effectively run the NXT coding program except one, the teacher computer. This means that we are coding by committee. The students who are confident are able to code with the group, but the ones who aren't, simply don't code.

We need 10 Lego Spike Prime sets. These come with the online coding platform, which the students can access via their Chromebooks.

This year, our First Lego League Challenge team made it to the state championship. They were able to more effectively build a robot using the team's Spike Prime set.

These kids are bright, and I'd love to encourage more students to succeed with the robotics program. With new kits in the classroom, we could.
