Help Mrs. Newman

Hello and thank you for reading my proposal. I teach third grade at a public school in Snellville, Georgia. My students are predominantly lower middle class. Our school is in an area that at one time was quite rural, but has grown tremendously in population over the past few years. Our school recently became a title 1 school.

My students desperately need hands-on materials to help them learn math concepts. Students need items to help them build, create and model the problems that we give them. This helps them move beyond the theoretical concepts that are often so difficult for them to understand and gives them concrete items to work with.

My classroom needs more manipulatives to help them understand mathematical concepts. We have some manipulatives but only enough for one or two students to use them at a time. I would like to have enough to have students working in centers on concepts that are at their level where they can work at their own pace. I am requesting the instant math centers from Lakeshore learning. These centers include manipulatives and games for the follow concepts: Numerical operations • Place value & fractions • Analog & digital time • Standard & metric measurement • Problem solving • Properties of 2-D & 3-D shapes • Probability • Reading & interpreting graphs • Number functions • Number patterns

You can help me get manipulatives into the hands of my students. I know that these centers will not only help them understand the concepts we are trying to learn, but will also get them motivated and excited about math again! Thank you so much for your consideration. My students thank you!
