My Students

As a second grade teacher in an urban school, my students come from a variety of backgrounds. No matter what their background is, they are all a curious bunch of children who are striving to make the world a better place. We are an International Baccalaureate school that focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer in the classroom and beyond.

They like to move, they are 21st century learners, and they love a lot of positive attention.

From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I hope to inspire them to continue on a path of academic excellence that focuses on their individual needs.

My Project

My students use technology every day in our classroom. They play math games, listen to books, and complete math and reading assessments. Unfortunately, the Chromebooks we've been using have slowly started to die. I think iPads will have a longer life and will help support students who have different learning styles. The kid friendly cases will help extend the life of this amazing technology.

As an IB school we have 6 units of inquiry that we teach throughout the year.

Our second unit focuses on story telling and how stories are taught through different cultures. These iPads will help my students be able to tell their own stories through technology and share them with others.

The donations for this project will improve my classroom by providing updated technology for these 21st century learners. With less technology issues, we will be able to increase our time on task and ability to inquire about topics we are interested in. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
