My Students

I have the honor and privilege to teach language arts to all fifth graders at my school. If you ask any of my students, they know I love to read and I want every student to have equitable access to current, high-interest books.

Books are like windows and mirrors: children are able to look out and see different cultures, languages, and people and they are also able to see themselves.

I want to provide diverse books for my diverse learners to see themselves, as well as, to travel to different places around the world. Books can provide all of that and more.

It is really important that as I teach my students to fall in love with reading, they have high-interest books to choose from. I would love the opportunity to update my library.

My Project

It is my dream to bring equitable access to all of my students to be able to read the books they are interested in. This is only possible with high-interest books. We take field trips up the road to the library as much as possible to immerse kids in books, but I also like to have options available in my own classroom. I have a set of Playaways in my classroom where students can plug in and listen to books while they read along with the physical book. Now, I am hoping to add this selection of books to my classroom library to get kids excited to read books; books that are like windows to other cultures and mirrors to their own lives.
