Help me give my students diverse literature circle books. These books will provide choice for my students and enrich my classroom library, where literacy and a love for reading will bloom.
My students have grown so much as writers, readers, and thinkers. I want to help them continue that growth by learning to use their voice as community activists. By the end of the year students have gained academic endurance and are ready to choose a book to read. My students will participate in a book tasting where they will "taste" all of these books.
Students will choose a book with a social justice issue that resonates with them.
They will choose one together as a group. They will have structured conversations about the book. They will complete a historical investigation about a social justice topic in the book. They will finish with a literary analysis of the book with a focus on what was especially beautiful. They will determine solutions for the problems presented in the books. These activities will help students gain a love for reading and teach them to solve problems.
