My Students

Currently we have to borrow dictionaries from the teacher next door or the one across campus. It takes a lot to move these back and forth each time, and that's if they aren't using them at the time.

We are a Title 1 school in the Birmingham area.

I have 27 fifth grade students and am a first year teacher. I have a very good group of students this year. They are real behaved and try their hardest. We know how to focus to get the job done, how to cut up and have a ball, and typically know when which is appropriate.

My Project

My class unit was created this year so we did not take over another classroom's materials. We started in August with the things I was able to purchase from Office Depot, Staples, etc. Dictionaries would help us to not only proofread our material, but also encourage curious minds who always want to know what something means.

As I am slowly able to build this classroom up I believe it helps my students feel like they are in a "real" classroom.

Having our own dictionaries stacked on the bookshelf would just add to that feeling of ownership and pride.
